Boley Blasts To Farley Speedway NASCAR Win
Farley, Iowa: Hot Tamales hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action on Friday, May 23rd at the Farley Speedway as the Memorial Day Holiday weekend got underway.
Steve Boley has served notice to the Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Models that he is back. Boley scored his second win of the 2003 season at the Farley Speedway topping another strong field of Late Models. Boley dropped to the bottom of the wide track on the green flag and shot to the front from his eighth position start and took the lead on lap number three from early race leader Dan Shelliam. Boley went on to lead the remainder of the race despite a late race challenge from Jeff Aikey. Aikey ran a close second with Bobby Hansen turning in another outstanding performance in taking third ahead of Todd Davis and Matt Furman.
Ron Barker drove his Modified to another impressive feature win coming from the fifth row to score the 20 lap win. Barker took the checkers ahead of Mark Schulte who advanced all the way 17th to take 2nd at the finish line. Jason Schueller turned in another strong run in taking third.
Ty Kleiner pushed his recent Pro Stock winning streak to four in a row at the SPI tracks on Friday night. Kleiner got out front early and went on to score a huge win over Bobby Moyer and Jeff Kennedy.
Mark Massey remained unbeaten and the Bounty of $500 remains in tack on the B-Modified driver from Worthington. Massey easily out distanced Jacob Seegmiller and Todd Ihde.
Jerry Merkes took the Hobby Stock win on Friday night leading the feature flag to flag. Merkes crossed under the checkers with Doug Yates in tow in second ahead of B.J. Schmitt.
The Farley Flyer feature got off to a rough start with Rueben Riley ending his first night at Farley by flipping wildly down the front chute. Riley was uninjured. The race saw plenty of wheel to wheel action as Al Brink worked to the front from his fifth row start to take the win over Bud Feldman and Danny Kennedy.
During intermission our teacher feature was held with West Dubuque High School teachers, Mr. Dankhart, Mr. Hafel and Mrs. Lukes racing against their students Jacob Reiff, Rob Kramer and R.J. Simon. The students who are regular Farley Flyer competitors started behind the teachers and had to pass the teachers and then come around and catch the teachers again in order to record the win. R. J. Simon was able to do exactly that on lap number six of the eight lap feature. Teacher Mr. Hafel was able to hold off the students for second. A good time was had by all and SPI would like to thank the teachers for being great sports.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing continues on Friday, May 30 with hot laps at 7 p.m.
