Merfeld Scores Flag to Flag win at Dubuque as Barker takes Points Lead.
The 2005 Racing Season has just one more points night at the Dubuque Co. Fair Grounds. Many tight battles are coming down to the final week, next Sunday. This past Sunday Night, it was Back to School night sponsored by East Dubuque Savings Bank and Drew Cook Excavating
In the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Luke Merfeld ecthed his name into the record books for 2005 with the Late Model Feature win. Merfeld who has numerous wins in the Late Model Division added another win to his collection. Since starting his Late Model career back in 2000, Merfeld has won in a GRT, Rocket, and Mastersbilt Chassis. Now Luke can add a Bob Pierce/Rayburn Chassis to his list of different Chassis run. Also, this is the first time in many years that a Dodge has visited victory lane at Dubuque for the Late Model division. Merfeld, who has been working steadily at getting the right combination together for this year, put it all together Sunday Night as he lead flag to flag to take the feature win. Ronnie Barker moved into second, but had nothing for Merfeld. With Barker's second place finish, Ronnie now has the Points Lead heading into Season Championship's next Sunday August 28th. Mark Curwen came home 3rd, with Gary Crawford and Jeremiah Hurst rounding out the top 5.
The Modified feature looked to be a repeat of the week before with Ronnie Barker jumping into the lead, but a broke rearend sidelined Barker and Mark Schulte took over the point and the feature win. Jason Schueller, Steve Wetter, Darren Mish and Points Leader Scott Nesteby rounded out the top 5. A very tight battle in the Modified division going into the Championship next Sunday with Nesteby leading.
40 year old Rookie Joel Callahan took a sweet Victory in the Pro Stock Division. Callahan who has been steadily improving all season put it all together and came away with the victory Sunday Night. His victory wouldn't come easy as he had to hold off another Rookie in Justin Mitchell. Mitchell settled for second, with Levi Benn, Jimmy Brokus and Jeff Valentine coming in the top 5. The Pro Stock class also has a tight battle and the Champion won't be determined until the final checkered falls on the Season Championship feature next Sunday.
Racin Jason Rauen made it 2 in a row with the win in the Stock Car division as did Jason Seegmiller in the Limited Stock. Brother Jacob Seegmiller took the B-Mod's with Justin Kay taking his first ever Farley Flyer Feature.
