Jimmy Mars Wins Hotly Contested Shootout at Dubuque

The fans of the Dubuque Speedway were treated to a beautiful Memorial Day Sunday weatherwise and over 135 cars in 7 divisions.
Jimmy Mars from Menomonie, WI made his first trip to the Dubuque Co Fairground a memorable one as he took home the $6,000 paycheck at the Open Late Model Shootout and bested the 38 Super late Models in attendance on the multi-grooved speedway. Mars started on the outside front row of the 50 lap feature. Mars fell back to the 4th position by lap 10 and turned the burners on from there. Brian Birkhofer lead the first portion of the 50 lap feature before Mars drove underneath the Muscatine Driver and took the lead around lap 20. Steve Francis in the Larry Moring Rocket moved into second and gave chase to Mars. Mars worked lap the traffic masterfully and went on to win the Open Shootout. Steve Francis was second, followed by Brady Smith, Brian Birkhofer, and Dennis Erb rounded out the top 5. Curt Martin qualified thru the Consi and got to 6th before the feature race ended.
Ronnie Barker returned to Victory lane in the Modifieds division that saw Jerimiah Hurst go for a nasty series of flips in turn 3. Hurst was shaken up and was being checked out by the Medical Professionals. Barker grabbed the lead from Steve Wetter just passed the halfway point of the Modified feature. Scott Nesteby worked his way up from the middle of the pack to get second with Steve Johnson, Jason Schueller and Mike Burbridge rounding out the top 5.
Ken Martelle took home his first feature win in the Pro Stocks holding off Brian Beaudry and early race leader Levi Benn.
Eric Glendenning cruised to an easy B-Mod feature win ahead of Travis Law & Jacob Seegmiller.
Ed McIntyre held off Jason Rauen to take the win in the Stock Car division.
Ryan Federman won the Limited Stock feature and Brian Klein won the Farley Flyer 4 cyl division.
The DODGE NASCAR Weekly Racing Series continues next Sunday June 5th at the Dubuque Fairgrounds with hot laps at 6 and racing action to begin at 6:30.
