Boley Takes Mid-Season Trophy at Farley Speedway
July 8, 2005
Boley, Schulte, Benn takes Noel's Tree & Crane Service Midseason Championships

It's hard to believe that the racing Season is half-way thru as Farley hosted the Noel's Tree and Crane Service Midseason Championships on Friday Night. The fans were treat to great weather and racing action with lots of passing in all divisions.

Steve Boley of West Liberty was the first repeat winner and the first Driver in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series to win back to back races as he took home his 3rd win of the year at Farley. The win was a somber win for Boley. Earlier in the feature, a major wreck involving many cars stopped the racing action on lap 3. Rusty Patterson of Mason City got turned around at the end of the front stretch and oncoming cars swerved to miss the disabled Patterson machine. With the all the cars dicing to get around Patterson, Jeff Tharp made contact with Patterson's and sent Tharp thru a series of flips. Ed Sanger also was involved and made contact with the rear of the his car and Patterson's rupturing the fuel cell of Patterson's car and starting a fuel fire. Thanks to the quick work of the A-1 fire and rescue team, Patterson was pulled from the car and received 3rd degree burns to his hands and was transported to the Dubuque Hospital and then onto the University of Iowa Hospitals where he is in good spirits and listed in stable condition. Jeff Tharp and Ed Sanger were treated and released from Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. When racing action resumed after a 45 minute red flag, Ace Ihm took contol of the lead. Boley grabbed the lead from Ace Ihm on lap 24 and never looked back in route to the 35 lap Feature win. Ihm settled for second, Gary Webb was 3rd, Curt Martin 4th and Luke Merfeld rounds out the top 5.

Points leader Mark Schulte is proving that winning is becoming second hand for the Delhi Native. Schulte started 12th in the Modified feature and worked his way into the top 3 by lap 5. Early race leader Mike Burbridge was having a great run leading while being pressured by Ronnie Barker. While the battle was going on for 1st & 2nd, Schulte worked his way into the lead by passing both Burbridge and Barker in turns 1 & 2. Schulte would go and stretch out his lead by a straightaway until Burbridge broke a j-bar and lost his driveshaft on lap 13. This would move Barker into 2nd. After the caution Barker tried every move to pass the Points Leader Schulte... but it wasn't enough as Schulte takes the Mid-season Championship feature. Barker winds up 2nd, Scott Nesteby 3rd, Jason Schueller 4th, and Steve Johnson 5th.

The Pro Stocks had a make-up feature besides the Mid-season feature. Justin Mitchell of Cedar Rapids jumped into the early lead and would not look back as the Rookie took his 2nd feature win of the year at Farley. Brian Beaudry wound up 2nd, Larry McCall 3rd. In the Mid-season Championship feature, Levi Benn grabbed the lead on lap 3 from Mike Hughes and went on to win the Pro Stock feature by holding off a hard charging Larry McCall and Ken Martelle on the last lap. McCall settles for 2nd with Martelle 3rd.

Former Stock Car Champion Jason Rauen had no problem scoring the feature win in the Stock Car division as he led flag to flag. Jerry Merkes, Ed McIntyre, Luke Goedert, and Travis Kaiser round out the top 5.

Jeremy English grabbed the lead just past half way for the feature win in the B-mods. Kenny Boyes was 2nd but DQ'ed after an on-track incident after the race was finished and scored last. Jason Roth moved into 2nd and the disqualification of Boyes.

Denny Udelhofen held off Becky Roth for the Limitecd stock win and Danny Kennedy takes the checkers in the Farley Flyer 4 cyl division.

Racing action continues next Friday, July 15th with Double Late Model Features (a make-up feature from June 24th) and regular racing action continues in the other 6 division. Visit wwwSimmonspromotionsinc.com for more racing information.
