Curt Martin

Biography:

Curt Martin is perhaps one of auto racing's most recognized names in the Midwest. A second-generation driver, he is always one of the favorites to win, always one of the most popular with the fans, and he responds with incredible success at the race track. Curt has made winning a habit.

Curt was fortunate to grow up in a racing family, his father Glen was one of Iowa top drivers for many years. Curt began racing in 1979, at age 15. By 1984 he was winning races across Iowa, and gaining areputation as a favorite among fans anddrivers alike.

In 1990 saw Curt focus on the I.M.C.A. Triple Crown, a $10,000 bonus to a driver who could win the I.M.C.A. Summer Series, the I.M.C.A. National Championship, and at least one Track Championships.

Curt responded by dominating racing in Independence and Marshalltown, winning the first four Summer Series races, and winning away with the National Championship. Curt is the only one of two drivers in the 90-year history of the I.M.C.A. to capture the Triple Crown. He narrowly missed winning it again in 1991. While the largest portion of his career has been racing on dirt tracks, Curt demonstrated his versatility by racing in the ARTGO Challenge Series in 1992. Despite the fact he was the only driver on the series with no asphalt experience, he was the second-highest finishing rookie for the season.

Curt's talents as a driver, and likable personality has gained the attention of the sport's elite. In 1993 he was recruited by Crew members of a prominent NASCAR Winston Cup team to drive a special Research and Development car. Curt spent three months racing in Georgia and South Carolina. As a "Northerner", many were surprised by Curt's instant popularity with the fans.

From 1994 to 1996 Curt has ran the NASCAR Busch All-Star Tour, NASCAR's only dirt track touring division. Curt was 3rd in 1994, 5th in 1995 and was 6th in '96 until skipping the last 3 races due to conflicts and finished 10th. From '95 to '99 ran a limited schedule on asphalt at Hawkeye Downs in the late model division. In 1998 Curt returned to the I.M.C.A. Summer Series and finished fourth in the point standings. As in the past Curt continues to expand his successful career by running 3 ASA races in 1997 and 2 in 1998; with live national television coverage. In '99 Curt ran the Summer Series again finishing 2nd in the final point standings. Also in '99 he focused on and won the I.M.C.A. National Championship, the only driver ever to do this twice. He also captured two track championships.
