Kay Wins Late Models, Hurst in Modifieds at Dubuque Speedway
Posted on June 10, 2015 at 01:20:37 am
Dubuque, Iowa: The racing action on Sunday night at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway was wild and very exciting. The night featured lots of very close racing and some bumping as well with the final checkered of the night waving at 9 pm. The Klein Custom Homes IMCA Late Model Feature was not decided until after a 22nd lap caution set up a 3 lap dash to the finish. Justin Kay held off a hard charging Luke Merfeld to score the win. Luke Goedert came across the finish line in third. Before one lap was completed in the Late Model Main a grinding crash sent five drivers to the pits with extensive sheet metal damage.
Dubuque driver Jeremiah Hurst scored a very popular win in the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modifieds. Hurst advanced from his 8th starting position and took over the lead by getting by Matt Gansen late in the race. Gansen held on for second ahead of JD Auringer.
Bryce Garnhart took the checkers first in the GSi Collision Specialists IMCA Sportmod division. Garnhart was able to get by week one winner Tyler Soppe and held off a last lap charge by Soppe to score the win on Sunday night. Troy Bauer recovered from an early race caution to finish in third.
Defending track champion, Jerry Miles added another trophy to his collection by scoring the IMCA Stock Car division win. Miles crossed the stripe ahead of Tommy Thompson and Jason Brimeyer.
Sunday night racing will continue at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway on June 14th with hot laps slated for 6 pm, the first race will take the green at 6:30 pm.
